Products for Elimination Communication
What is Elimination Communication (EC)?
EC is a loving and gentle way of meeting your baby's elimination needs. Believe it or not, babies are born potty trained. When we put a diaper on our baby we are training our child to eliminate into a diaper. Babies are born with the instinct to eliminate away from their bodies and even newborns can send clear signals of when they need to eliminate. By observing your baby and watching for these signals you can learn when your baby is about to pee or poop and you can help your baby go into a receptacle or even the toilet. EC is good for parents, good for babies and good for the earth. EC is not potty training, it is a journey. There are numerous benefits to practicing EC, but some of the big ones are: improved communication and closeness between parent and baby, less money spent on diapers, less diapers sent to landfills, and a smooth transition into potty independence.
EC has it's own language and the following are some of the words you will hear in regards to EC:
Catch: Your baby's elimination went into the intended receptacle which could be a little potty, the toilet, sink, bathtub, etc.
Miss: Your baby's elimination did not go into the intended receptacle and instead went somewhere else, such as the floor, baby's pants or even the diaper you are using as a back-up.
Pottytunity: Giving your baby the opportunity to use the potty. If she has to go, she will. If not, she won't.
